The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games kicked off on July 28 with the opening ceremony at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham. India have racked up a significant 61 medals in total winning 22 gold, 16 silver, and 24 bronze at the CWG 2022. Some of our legendary athletes who have won gold medals include PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj-Chirag Shetty in Badminton and Sharath Kamal in table tennis. On behalf of Fitoverse, we congratulate the winners and encourage more young athletes to pursue sports from our schooling and consistently take your latent to the international levels like your predecessor did.

Here is a comparison of India's performance in 2022 and 2018 for each sport:

Wrestling

India brought home 12 medals from wrestling, matching their total from 2018. They did, however, have an additional gold medal this time. At CWG 2022, six Indian wrestlers took home gold, compared to five in 2018.

Weightlifting

Weightlifting delivered India its most medal total in 2020, surpassing wrestling. India won a total of 10 medals in 2022, including three golds, one more than they earned in 2018. India won nine medals in weightlifting in 2018, five of which were gold.

Table tennis

With seven medals won in table tennis in 2022, India enjoyed a noteworthy season. However, this fell short of India’s eight-medal haul from last year by one. The women’s team competition was where India had the most noticeable disappointment because they were hoping to defend their gold medal from 2018.

Boxing

Similar to Table Tennis, Boxing was another sport in which India’s 2018 performance declined. Despite winning nine medals in 2018, India had a strong year in 2022, winning seven medals, including three golds. India took home a total of three medals on both occasions.

Badminton

With six medals in the sport, India was able to match their total from 2018 in 2022. Despite losing the mixed team final, the nation still managed to win three top podium spots, earning more gold medals. India won two gold medals in badminton in 2018.

Athletics

Despite the significant Neeraj Chopra-shaped hole, India’s 2022 total easily outperformed its 2018 total. India earned eight medals in all from the athletics competition in Birmingham, which is a big increase from the three they took home in 2018.

lawn Bowls

Despite Lawn Bowls having been a component of the games since its establishment, India has never won a medal in the sport before to 2022. However, after winning two medals in 2022, including a historic gold in the women’s fours, the nation’s fate in the sport altered.

Judo

India won three medals in the sport of judo in Birmingham despite the sport not being a part of the CWG in 2018. Two silvers and a bronze were awarded in this.

Cricket

Women’s cricket made its debut in 2022, which was the first time in 24 years that cricket has been a part of the competition. The team lead by Harmanpreet Kaur was able to earn a historic silver medal.

Hockey

To the surprise of many, the Indian men’s and women’s teams failed to win a medal in 2018, but they made up for it in 2022 by winning medals in both events. The men took home a silver medal, while the ladies received a bronze.

Para Powerlifting

In powerlifting, India won one medal in each of the years 2018 and 2020. The nation was able to celebrate a gold this time, though. There was one bronze medal for the nation at Gold Coast.

We believe that India will become the next major sporting superpower because we can clearly see that the Indian sports environment is transforming in a positive way.
